A Complete Guide to Earning Points in the World of Hyatt Loyalty Program
by Krish Patel
World of Hyatt is one of the largest hotel loyalty programs that offers several ways to earn and redeem your hard-earned points. From staying at Hyatt properties to spending on credit cards, you have a variety of ways to stack up on World of Hyatt points. In this guide, we’ll explore a variety of options to help you earn those necessary points for a future hotel stay.
Earn Hyatt Points by Staying at Hotels
Members are rewarded by World of Hyatt for each hotel stay across the Hyatt portfolio. The Hyatt portfolio includes brands such as Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt Place, Thompson Hotels, and Hyatt Regency, only to name a few of the many brands. You can earn points if you book through Hyatt’s website.
Hyatt awards guests five points per dollar spent on hotel stays and room charges, such as room and spa services. This is something that’s consistent across the board no matter which Hyatt property you stay at. However, if you make purchases on Find Experiences, you’ll earn 10 points per dollar spent.
Elite status can come with having perks, such as earning bonus points, whether it be from a hotel or airline loyalty program. Hyatt elite members accumulate the following amounts of bonus points based on their tier of status across all hotel stays:
Discoversit elite status: 10% bonus and 0.5 extra points per dollar spent
Explorist elite status: 20% bonus and 1 extra point per dollar spent
Globalist elite status: 30% bonus and 1.5 extra points per dollar spent
Earn Bonus Hyatt Points Through Promotions
Within the first few openings at new Hyatt properties, you can earn 500 bonus points per night for qualifying stays. To earn additional bonus points, check the current World of Hyatt promotions on Hyatt’s website. It’s worth registering for the promotions even if you’re not sure whether you’ll be staying at a Hyatt property so that you’ll be all set to earn bonus points if a last-minute trip arises.
Earn Hyatt Points by Holding Events and Meetings
World of Hyatt rewards points to guests who hold meetings and events at Hyatt hotels. You’ll earn one point per dollar spent (up to 50,000 points) on eligible expenses, such as meeting rooms and event spaces. Guests can also earn elite status by holding meetings:
Three meetings are needed to earn Discoverist status
10 meetings are needed to earn Explorist status
20 meetings are needed to earn Globalist status
Earn Hyatt Points by Credit Card Spending
Hyatt has partnered with Chase to offer two co-branded credit cards, those being the World of Hyatt Credit Card and the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. Each of Hyatt’s co-branded cards comes with the following annual fees, welcome bonuses, and earning rates, as shown below.
World of Hyatt Credit Card:
Annual fee: $95
Earning rate: Four points per dollar spent at Hyatt properties, two points per dollar spent at restaurants, on airline fares booked through the company directly, on commuting, and on gym/fitness club memberships, and one point per dollar spent on all other purchases
Welcome bonus: Earn 30,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months of account opening plus another 30,000 points by earning two points per dollar on purchases that would normally earn one point per dollar in the first six months of account opening, on up to $15,000 spent on the card
World of Hyatt Business Credit Card:
Annual fee: $199
Earning rate: Four points per dollar spent on Hyatt purchases, two points per dollar spent on gym/fitness club memberships, and one point per dollar on all other purchases
Welcome bonus: Earn 60,000 points after spending $5,000 in the first three months of account opening
Transfer Points and Miles
Several points currencies transfer to World of Hyatt, such as Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards, both of which are at a 1:1 ratio.
World of Hyatt is often viewed as one of the most valuable Chase transfer partners because you can get maximum value by transferring your points. Several credit cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, or Chase Sapphire Preferred earn transferable points. Hyatt is one of the few brands out there to still use award charts for redemptions on off-peak, peak, and standard days. Whether you’re staying at a Category 1 property or a Park Hyatt or Andaz, you can get a great value by transferring your Ultimate Rewards.
Earn Hotel Points by Flying American Airlines
World of Hyatt partners with American Airlines, making it possible to earn Hyatt points on AA flights if you’re a Hyatt elite member with Discoverist, Explorist, Globalist, or Lifetime Globalist status. You’ll earn one Hyatt point per dollar spent on qualifying flights. All you need to do is link your Hyatt and AAdvantage accounts by clicking here.
Buying Hotel Points is a Last Option
A last resort option which you should rarely (if ever) consider doing to earn Hyatt points is to buy them. It goes without saying that one should not buy points and miles of any currency unless there’s a discount or bonus, which isn’t always the case. Thankfully, Hyatt runs some frequent promotions for purchasing hotel points, but if you can earn points in any other possible way, buying them isn’t recommended.
Bottom Line
Among travelers, the World of Hyatt program is considered to be one of the best hotel programs, offering a variety of ways to earn points that can be used towards your next hotel stay.
