Delta Air Lines to Cut Two International Routes this October
by Krish Patel
Delta Air Lines is making some changes to its international network. The Atlanta-based carrier has recently filed plans to exit two important international routes:
Atlanta to Stuttgart, Germany
New York to Bogota, Colombia
Both routes will be cut from the network on October 26, 2024. However, Delta’s route to Stuttgart being cut will mark a significant end because DL has been the only American carrier to fly to the German city. Delta has been operating this route for over 20 years. While Stuttgart will leave Delta’s route network in Germany, Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin will continue to be served by the airline.
The route between Atlanta and Stuttgart is one that’s business-focused on the business of luxury cars, as it’s how Mercedes Benz’s and Porsche’s U.S. headquarters in Atlanta were connected to their primary headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the route was scrapped from March of 2020 to March of 2023, however, it’s being scrapped for good this time.
Delta has reported that their customers will have access to SkyTeam partners Air France and KLM when flying to or from Stuttgart.
In addition to Delta’s transatlantic adjustment, short-haul international service between New York JFK and Bogota El Dorado International Airport will also be ending. The carrier has reported that the route is being cut to meet with consumer demand. While Delta won’t fly to Bogota from JFK, the airline will serve the Colombian capital twice daily from Atlanta.
Travelers can also connect through Miami or Orlando to reach Bogota, as both cities in Florida will have nonstop flights to Bogota on LATAM, Delta’s joint venture partner.
While two of Delta’s international routes are being cut, it will still be possible to reach either destination by connecting onto one of Delta’s joint venture or SkyTeam partners.
