Fiji Airways to Use American Airlines AAdvantage as its Loyalty Program
by Krish Patel
An airline doesn’t always have its own loyalty program for loyal travelers. Several airlines have shared programs that allow passengers to earn miles whether you fly on one airline or another that uses the same frequent traveler program. Fiji Airways is currently a OneWorld Alliance connect partner and will become a full member of the alliance group sometime in 2025, with no set date. When the airline becomes a full OneWorld member, it will adopt AAdvantage, the loyalty program of American Airlines.
Sharing Loyalty Programs in a Deepening Partnership
It's not completely unheard of for an airline to share loyalty programs with another. For example, several carriers, such as Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar, and British Airways, use Avios. Each airline that uses Avios is owned by a parent company, International Airlines Group. SkyTeam carriers Air France and KLM share Flying Blue, with a similar deep partnership that’s expected to occur between Fiji Airways and American Airlines.
In fact, American Airlines and Fiji Airways have a partnership, but with less benefits for frequent travelers. American loyalists can redeem AAdvantage miles on certain Fiji flights, however, flying Fiji Airways won’t help you earn loyalty points needed for AAdvantage elite status. Even if Fiji Airways didn’t adopt AAdvantage as its loyalty program, the partnership between both carriers would already deepen because of Fiji Airways’s entrance to the OneWorld Alliance.
Get excited! It will soon be possible for AAdvantage members to enjoy benefits such as priority check-in and boarding, as well as free baggage allowance and preferred seats.
